I’m starting to think I went a little too easy on Isabel Marant’s supposedly haute couture sneakers last week. At least the “Bekket’ had sporty-chic appeal (though still way overpriced); the “Bobby” is all-out dowdy-looking. And $725 for f*% sneakers?! The more I think about it, the more appalled I am. I don’t care how much I adore Isabel Marant or how cool she is (because only she could even try to give these any cool credential) – this is a big, fat slob.
Who would buy these? I earnestly want to know. A crepe-soled suede sneaker with oversized shoelaces and perforated detail: Hogan did a sneaker far cuter than this years ago. I have about five pairs, but I paid fifty bucks apiece at the Tod’s outlet, which is exactly where I see this heading. At Barneys New York for $725.
